Soccer Goal Dimensions

If you want to build a regulation-size goal, you’ll need to follow the soccer goal dimensions detailed in the FIFA Laws of the Game. Here you’ll find the official full-size soccer goal dimensions as well as recommended goal sizes for youth players.

Regulation Soccer Goal Dimensions


As you can see in the photo above, the distance between the posts is 8 yards (24 feet or 7.32 meters). The distance from the lower edge of the crossbar to the ground is 8 feet (2.44 m).

According to FIFA specifications, both the crossbar and the upright goalposts must have the same width and depth, which should not be more than 5 inches (12 cm). The posts can be made of metal or wood, and can be square, rectangular, round or elliptical in shape.

Youth Soccer Goal Dimensions


There are no official dimensions for youth soccer goals. Recommendations vary from one source to another; to give you an idea, here are the dimensions recommended by US Youth Soccer (who actually use the Kwik Goal recommendations) and Dick’s Sporting Goods:

US Youth Soccer Recommended Goal Sizes

Age 12 and above: 8 ft by 24 ft (full size)
Under-10 to Under-12: up to 8 ft by 24 ft
Under-9: up to 6½ ft by 18½ ft
Under-8: up to 6½ ft by 12 ft
Under-6 and Under-7: 4 ft by 6ft

Dick’s Sporting Goods Recommendations

Age 12 and above: 8 ft by 24 ft (full size)
Under-9 to Under-11: 6½ to 7 feet high by 18½ to 21 feet wide
Under-7 to Under-8: 6 ½ feet high by 12 to 18 feet wide
Under-6: 4 to 4 ½ feet high by 6 to 9 feet wide
